In an extraordinary war of words, Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin has publicly criticised his party colleague Peadar Tóibín for sensationally claiming that the Oireachtas Committee set-up to examine the Eighth Amendment law has shown favouritism towards the pro-choice stance.
The row erupted last night when TD Peadar Tóibín expressed his views on RTÉ's 'The Week in Politics'.
He said that he had come to his contentious point of view that there was a strong bias here at play because there's so far been 24 pro-choice witnesses compared to only four pro-life witnesses giving testimony to the Oireachtas Committee.
Eoin Ó Broin later tweeted to say that Mr Tóibín's outspoken views did not represent their party's and that he was "very disappointed" with his colleague's contentious comments.
Another Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O'Brien took to twitter last night to claim that any imbalance is because pro-life groups are refusing to appear in front of the committee.
"Don't cry over spilt milk when you intentionally split (sic) it yourself just so you can cry," he wrote.
This does not represent @sinnfeinireland view of #8Committee I'm very disappointed that @Toibin1 has aligned himself with Mattie McGrath & Rónán Mullen in trying to undermine the work of Committee & SF reps on it. https://t.co/JjtnlfAq8X

The imbalance has been caused by Pro-Life groups refusing to appear before the Ctte. Don't cry over spilt milk when you intentionally split it yourself just so you can cry https://t.co/98eGMWaQaR
