Oscar Favourite 'The Shape of Water' Accused Of Plagiarism
The son of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Paul Zindel has launched a lawsuit against the movie's makers.
David Zindel claims the critically acclaimed film "brazenly copies the story, elements, characters, and themes" of his late father Paul Zindel's 1969 play 'Let Me Hear You Whisper'.
He goes on to list 61 similarities between his dad's work and the movie, which has been nominated for 13 Oscars.
“I have never read nor seen the play,” the film's director Guillermo Del Toro told Deadline Hollywood yesterday.
“I’d never heard of this play before making 'The Shape of Water', and none of my collaborators ever mentioned the play.”
