'Largest flotilla yet' will attempt to break Israel's blockade of Gaza this Spring
“Our actions aim to uphold international law and to support the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom of movement, self-determination, and dignity," wrote the activist coalition.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition have planned to launch the largest flotilla of aid ships yet, planning to embark towards Gaza this spring.
“Following the sailing of FFC’s Madleen boat in June 2025, a wave of new initiatives emerged,” the FCC said in a statement, “expanding the movement into a broader international effort to send not just one boat, but fleets, and not just a mission, but a coordinated, sustained challenge to Israel’s siege and violent settler colonial policies.
“Our actions aim to uphold international law and to support the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom of movement, self-determination, and dignity… With our governments fueling genocide and failing to uphold their legal and moral obligations, the people of global civil society are rising together in larger and larger numbers.”
The coalition of activists are made up of grassroots groups worldwide, several of which participated in October's voyage where Israel kidnapped 41 aid crew members, including Greta Thunberg. They were detained for several days and have said they endured torture.
While organisers have not said exactly how many ships will be sent this spring, in February the Nelson Mandela Foundation suggested there would be more than 100. Nelson Mandela's grandson, Mandla Mandela was among last year's participants.
Global Sumud Flotilla has also extended the ability to register for participation, closing today.
