Inclusion Ireland Joins Together For Yes Campaign.

Deputy Lynch commented: “It is welcome news that Inclusion Ireland have joined the Together for Yes campaign. The voices of people with disabilities need to be heard over the next five weeks of this campaign.

“Women with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups when it comes to sexual assault and rape. The detrimental effects of the 8th amendment for women’s health during pregnancy apply equally to women with disabilities.

“Pregnancy can often impact the health of disabled people and so the availability of abortion up to 12 weeks (and after if their health is at serious risk) on home soil with the advice and care of doctors that know the individual is crucially important.

“Travel to England or elsewhere is often a really difficult journey for most people, but particularly so for individuals with disabilities if they must arrange support, accessible transport and services

“Irish women, including those with disabilities, have abortions every day. The referendum to repeal the 8th amendment will not change that. We now have an opportunity for us to decide to treat women better in Ireland.

“Inclusion Ireland are a very well respected organisation and the Together for Yes campaign will hugely benefit from their knowledge and expertise in this area.”
