Hot for 2020 Irish Acts: Careerist
'Swoonsome outsider rock' a la Weezer.
After spending a fistful of years releasing some arresting music as Hot Cops, last August, the Belfast trio decided to ditch the Arrested Development-referencing name and go with their present moniker. Thankfully, their utterly swoonsome brand of outsider rock remains intact, as evidenced by their recently released debut album Weird Hill. Destined to be embraced by lovers of Pavement, Parquet Courts and Weezer, the dynamic, distorted offering features some fiendishly good lyrics and sharp hooks, as well as guitar solos J. Mascis would be proud of.
Hear: Weird Hill.
See: The pleasantly odd, athletics-based clip for ‘Slasher’.
