Book Review: Ted Hayes - Sailor, Airman, Spy
One of Ireland's rare band of Cold War spies, Ted Hayes has published a memoir of his life and times as a western spy in Berlin just after the Berlin Wall was built. At a time where interest is growing in Vladimir Putin, Sailor, Airman, Spy: Memoir Of A Cold War Veteran provides the reader with a lively and unique insight into life as a spy when Russian power was at its height.
Somewhat of an accidental spy, Hayes secured a job as a 'linguist' after saying the Our Father in Irish at an interview. Sailor, Airman, Spy takes us on a merry carousel involving escapes from alluring female Russian spies, what the Russians really thought of the West, and a nostalgic trip back through the decadent world of Cold War Berlin.
Sailor, Airman, Spy is informed by the blithe spirit of a true adventurer, and despite its subject matter, will surely leave the reader smiling by the close
