Anti-ICE protest to take place in Dublin this afternoon
The demonstration starts at 5:30, today, January 26.
An Anti-ICE protest is being held today at 5.30 pm, at the Spire, Dublin.
The anti-ICE protest is taking place after another US citizen, Alex Pretti, was shot and killed by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Last Saturday, January 24, Alex Pretti was shot in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The 37-year-old ICU nurse is the second victim of a fatal shooting by a federal officer this month, with Renée Nicole Good having been killed on January 7.
Witnesses have stated that Pretti had come to the aid of an observer who had been shoved to the ground by an ICE officer. He was then pepper-sprayed, tackled and pinned by several agents, and shot multiple times, with one of them being said to have been at close range.
Many former and current government officials have taken to X to talk about the tragedy.
"The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy," wrote Barack and Michelle Obama. "It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault."
"You are defending the open killing of everyday Americans for exercising their Constitutional rights," said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "First, the mother of a 6-year-old child. Now an ICU nurse to veterans. Both shot at nearly point-blank range. All without reflection or remorse. People will not forget this."
The demonstration has been organised by People Before Profit, who are calling for the eviction of US forces from Shannon Airport, the cancellation of the St Patrick's Day visit to the USA, and the passing of the OBT.
