Album Review: Marisa Anderson & William Tyler - 'Lost Futures'
Stirring debut from instrumental guitar duo.
Marisa Anderson and William Tyler are experts at their craft – you can hear it in the brilliant moments on this debut from the American guitar maestros.
‘News About Heaven’ opens the album, the duelling acoustic guitars riffing off each other with the chemistry of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Lost In Translation.
Another highlight is ‘At The Edge Of The World’, which boasts bluesy acoustic riffs that, if electrified, wouldn’t be out of place on a Queens Of The Stone Age record. The tranquil ‘Haunted By Water’, meanwhile, conjures feelings of bucolic riverside bliss.
Though not an obvious candidate for mainstream success, fans who discover Lost Futures will likely treasure it. Best played on headphones to fully appreciate the musical intricacy, this is a terrific effort.
