8th Event Planned For Today Is Cancelled
A statement reads:"It is with regret we announce that the below event (scheduled tomorrow, Friday 4th May) is postponed in light of the sad news that Monica Barnes has died.Thank you for your understanding."
Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD has said that the untimely death of former TD for Dun Laoghaire, Monica Barnes is a loss for Irish politics.
“Monica was a courageous and outspoken voice in Irish politics at a time when progressive voices were few and far between.
“She was, in many respects, ahead of her time and always thought outside the box.
“I served in Dáil Éireann with Monica, and while we didn’t always agree, I always admired her fiery passion and commitment to the causes she cared deeply about.
“Fearless yet courteous, Monica made friends across the political spectrum, and I know that there are many people in Leinster House and across the country who will mourn her passing today.
“On behalf of the Fianna Fáil organisation, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Monica’s family and to her friends and colleagues in the Fine Gael party.
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dhílis.
