You're An Electron I'm An Electron
Irish Singer-Songwriter In Rousing Choruses Shock
One of the main problems with the singer/songwriter scene in Ireland at the moment is that there are just so many of them. In any given town or city there are always four of five guitar-toting troubadours willing to spill their guts out onstage in the hopes of being the next big thing. Of course, with all of these solo stars in waiting, it can often be hard to stand out from the crowd. Thankfully, Brian Canavan manages to do that and more. While not exactly possessing the best voice in the world, his quirky lyrics, which reference everyone’s favourite number enthusiast (besides the Count from Sesame Street) Carol Vorderman as well as (gasp) foolscap pages, actually help mark him out as someone different. The singer also has a huge talent for making songs with rousing choruses (‘Go’, ‘The Dogs’) which at times could give Steven Patrick Morrissey a run for his money. All in all, You’re An Electron, I’m An Electron is a welcome surprise.
