You Melt Words/5/8 Rhythm Here

Now matter how many times I heard New Thoughts, the debut album from multi-tasking Dublin duo Thread Pulls, I always found myself inexplicably shocked when that mourning trumpet kicked in, right in the middle of the opening track. Vocalist, guitarist and a million more things besides Gavin Duffy has done away with his brass buddy on ‘You Melt Words’ and ‘5/8 Rhythm Here’, two songs which feature on the band’s new 12”, but they’re still chock-full of surprises, namely Latin-sounding percussion, minimal production, and some terribly good repetitive shrieking from Mr. Duffy.
