Written Songs
The young Dublin trio’s blend of breezy melodic pop, smooth transatlantic R’n’B and rap-lite (done in a Dublin vernacular) has certainly struck a chord with local audiences, who’ve been flocking to see them in their droves of late. What’s quite striking on ‘Written Songs’, the first of two tracks here from their album, This Life, is the sharp contrast between the soulful vocals and the rapping interludes. With a reggafied rhythm, the mildly infectious ‘Sunny Days’ (possibly the first song to include a reference to Bulmers Light) is done in a very similar manner, while other tracks here include the nostalgic ‘Dublin Days’ and a decent cover of the Gnarls Barkley hit, ‘Crazy’.
