Woe To The Holy Vow
From Baker’s new album comes this polemical mid-tempo ballad, which can only be described as a blunt indictment of the men and women of the cloth who have blighted the lives of many. Taking the first verse, Dempsey pulls no punches with the fairly chilling words: “Brother, priest and nun/Look what you have done/You’ve left us drowning in a pool of tears”, while O’Connor’s familiar breathlessly impassioned voice mirrors the sentiment: “It’s crazy, it’s insane – the suffering, the pain.” With both voices coming together on the chorus, it’s a powerful statement and sure to be controversial.
