Win Butler and Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire have "decided to separate"

Co-founding members of Arcade Fire, Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, have announced that they will be separating.

The two, who have been married for 22 years, took to social media last night to inform fans of their separation, noting the band will carry on as usual.

"After a long and loving marriage, Win & Régine have decided to separate," the band wrote in the statement. "They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son. Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire. The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon."

Arcade Fire was founded in 2001 by Butler and former guitarist Josh Deu. Since then, the band has gained notoriety for albums such as The Suburbs, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2011, topping US charts.

Both Butler and Chassagne are multi-instrumentalists, with Butler providing piano, keyboards and guitar and Chassagne on vocals, accordion, drums and xylophone for the band. Arcade Fire released their last album Pink Elephant was released this past May. The Canadian band have played many shows in Ireland, with their most recent being Malahide Castle in 2024.

In 2022, Butler was accused of sexual misconduct by three women, for events which allegedly occurred between 2016 and 2020. He denied the allegations, stating that while he did engage in extramarital affairs, all sexual relations were consensual.

Chassagne stood by her husband following the allegations, stating “I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did."
