Where Are We Now?
There’s nary a sweeter thing to wake up to on a cold Tuesday in January than the news that the most fabulous man ever to grace planet earth, or indeed the indeterminable void that surrounds it (gushing, me?) has released his first single in a decade. To celebrate his 66th birthday, and the forthcoming release of his 25th album The Next Day, the Grande Dame of pop has given us ‘Where Are We Now?’, a wistful, timeless, moving ditty that makes frequent and nostalgic reference to his one-time home of Berlin. Complete with sleepy, lilting melody, and framed by a sneakily powerful chorus and some divinely mournful synths, it’s a total, but totally welcome, surprise.
