We are family!
How Shana Morrison (daughter of Van) got the da to put "a shot of blues" on her debut album, 7 Wishes
Shana Morrison gets a little bit of fatherly help on her new album, 7 Wishes, which is due in April through Vanguard Records.
Van contributes two songs to the collection - 'Sometimes We Cry' and 'Naked In The Jungle', an old number which Shana discovered while rummaging through some of her dad's demos from the '70s.
"It was kind of my secret song," she tells Rolling Stone. "I had to own up that I had stolen it - it was definitely going on the record."
Wanting to keep it in the family, Van contributes vocals and harmonica to 'Sometimes...', a prime slice of Celtic blues which is also being mooted as a single.
"I thought of having him do a harmonica solo 'cause he's a great harmonica player," she resumes. "So we sent it to him and he very kindly put his track on, which I don't think he's ever done before. Usually he has to be in the room when you're cutting it, and I think he made a very big exception by doing the modern thing and overdubbing. So he put a shot of blues on the record."
