Watch: Naoise Roo's 'Whore'
Dublin based singer-songwriter releases her third single that was inspired by Mary Magdalene and ideas of devotion.
Naoise Roo released her third single entitle 'Whore' last week. The single's video was directed by Dublin based and acclaimed director Bob Gallagher (Girl band) and stars actor Aron Hegarty.
For Naoise "the song 'Whore' was born out of a sense of longing and frustration. The idea of playing with power and submission. I think Bob's video reflects those feelings but takes a different slant. Religion and sexuality have had centuries of conflict and in Ireland we know this all too well."
The video was premiered by Irish music blog Nialler9 that describes the single as it "follows in the tradition of PJ Harvey in the scornful yet human rock song stakes. It’s a song that seeks control and craves release in no uncertain terms".
Naoise Roo released her debut album Lilith in April last year. According to Roo's page, her musical styles range from hard grunge, to ambient electronica, lush indie rock and Jacque Brel-channeling burlesque.
'Whore' is available via Little L Records. and features on Roo's 2015 Lilith album.
