WATCH: Chance The Rapper recites poetry and covers Stevie Wonder at his NPR Tiny Desk Concert
The Chicago hip-hop artist wrote the poem on the way from his hotel to the Desk
Acclaimed artist Chance the Rapper broke the mould during his appearance in an NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
He appeared relaxed and humble, expressing his love for the concert series and for artists who have appeared on it such as Gregory Porter.
The poem, entitled "The Other Side", was read out in a conversational style, and was interrupted by an office pager announcement which he made humorous with an exclamation "no more poetry!"
The piece dealt with the gulf between ambition and reality, and between his origins and where he now finds himself.
He then performed a cover of the 1974 Stevie Wonder song "They Won't Go When I Go", which resounded with calming Rhodes piano sounds and emotionally raw vocals.
