Wanted
Classic tunes get a rockabilly makeover.
In many ways much of your enjoyment of the debut album from cowpunk band Moo will depend on how much you like quirky reinterpretations of classic songs. Having (barely) lived through horrible ‘90s no marks Undercover and been horribly scarred by the experience, I feel slightly antsy whenever I hear an act have opted to re-imagine classics such as ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ by The Ramones. Well, so much for prejudice! I’m pleased to report that Moo haven’t totally destroyed the source material by performing their chosen songs in a rockabilly/bluegrass style. Some covers work (‘Bang Bang,’ ‘2000 Horses’) and some don’t (‘Crazy,’ ‘Ready Or Not’). On the whole, I guess, Wanted isn’t the worst novelty album you’ll hear this year. But to say that you canlive without it is an understatement.
