Underneath The Stars
Her new album shows her moving forward with her songwriting.
Earlier this year, the Barnsley-born folksinger released a retrospective compilation album celebrating ten years in the music business. Her new album shows her moving forward with her songwriting – reworking existing material as on ‘The Good Man’, a variation of the comic song we know as ‘Seven Drunken Nights’; composing new melodies for the 19th century poem ‘The Daughter of Megan’ and writing original songs like ‘Polly’ and ‘Young James’ in a traditional vein; Eddi Reader and Ocean Colour Scene’s Simon Fowler contribute impressive guest vocals, whilst Rusby’s sure, gentle voice, with its lulling and near imperceptible vibrato, remains an absolute pleasure to listen to.
