The German U2 fansite U2tours.de are raising money for an important cause – and giving musicians the opportunity to record in an iconic studio.
The largest German-speaking U2 fansite, U2tour.de, are raffling a professional day of recording at Windmill Lane Recording Studios in Dublin.
In cooperation with the German state registered body Musik Bewegt Stiftung (Music Moves Foundation), U2tour.de are once again raising donations for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières).
Having previously raised about 13.5k EUR in 2017, the current amount for 2018/2019 is already estimated at approximately 13k EUR.
Now, ahead of their last push for fundraising, u2tours.ie are raffling off a very special prize!
Windmill Lane Recording Studios
Winners of the raffle will receive a personal tour of the premises of the legendary Windmill Lane Recording Studios, at Ringsend Road, in Dublin.
On top of that, winners will be able to record one – or indeed several! – songs in the studios. This means using the same equipment that U2 used for many of their albums. The wining band or singer will be assisted by a professional sound engineer from Windmill Lane Recording Studios. The actual value of this prize is estimated as 1,400 EUR!!
The Windmill Lane Recording Studios are world-famous for hosting U2 recording sessions over the decades. On top of that, they've played host to dozens of the world's most celebrated artists, including The Rolling Stones, Kate Bush, Metallica, Van Morrison, The Corrs, Ed Sheeran, R.E.M, David Bowie and Simple Minds.
Having originally been based in Windmill Lane itself, Windmill Lane Recording Studios moved to new premises at Ringsend Road, where U2 recorded parts of their albums right up to their most recent meisterwerk, Songs Of Experience. In the studios, even today you will find photos, posters and awards that commemorate the recording sessions. Other leading Irish artists who have recorded in Windmill Lane Recording studios Ringsend Road location include current breakthrough stars Hozier and Gavin James.
The prize in this competition consists of a full recording day in as studio that is the envy of artists across the world. Accordingly, it is aimed at singers and musicians with some experience! Every musical style is, of course, welcome.
