Track of the Day: NIYL, ‘Not In Your Life’
Alt-pop artist NIYL has unveiled the first advanced release from his upcoming debut album Parish is Burning.
Limerick-based artist NIYL has merged his soulful vocals with the energy of electro-pop in his latest single ‘Not In Your Life’. The first track to arise from NIYL’s debut album Parish is Burning, out later this year, the emotionally-charged belter paints a dramatic soundscape of lush instrumentation and electronic beat.
Produced by Benza (Diffusion Lab), ‘Not In Your Life’ is about the realisation that a once cherished relationship has turned sour. Diving into the isolation of toxic love, NIYL perfectly captures the heavy sorrow of loss while maintaining the strength and independence that comes with leaving an unhealthy environment.
The new single perfectly sets the scene for NIYL’s incoming 10-track collection, Parish is Burning, which reflects on the singer’s childhood in Ireland and the challenges of being queer in the rural county of Limerick.
“‘Not In Your Life’ is the perfect song to introduce the world of Parish is Burning, the track is all about movement and change with the lyrics and the production really weaving together to channel this sense of urgency to leave something, and fast,” NIYL explained.
“I left my home when I was young, broken-hearted with quite a few relationships left turbulent. Taking the time to figure out who I was outside the parameters of my upbringing was important for healing and I think many can resonate with this. 'Not In Your Life' sets up the rest of the album with each song illustrating what life is like for a queer person living in rural areas.”
