Time Has Told Me
Wicklow singer unveils charming selection of covers.
Time Has Told Me is essentially a collection of cover versions and traditional tunes courtesy of Dublin-born but Wicklow-based singer Valerie Armstrong. Produced by Liam Ó Maonlaí and Larry Hogan, the arrangements are sparse and put the focus on Armstrong’s vocal performances. Highlights include the genius version of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop,’ which sounds as if it was written specifically with the singer’s voice in mind, and the duet with the aforementioned Hothouse Flowers singer ‘How’s The World Treating You?’ – an unashamedly old-school track that’s full of warmth. Admittedly I’d like to have heard a few original tracks on the release, but this is a promising debut from a fine interpreter..
