Through The Eyes
It’s been six years since Full Cycle’s last compilation, Music Box, and in the interim things have changed radically. Reprazent winning the Mercury Prize may have helped the label gain more exposure, while Through The Eyes shows that the tightly linked roster are content to plough on with scant regard for their public image.
With Reprazent and Breakbeat Era offering Roni Size and co. the forum to express their more accessible side, Through The Eyes is squared solely at the underground. Most of the tracks here are by Krust; ‘Hopscotch’, a co-production with Size, ‘Bad Intentions’ and ‘Freak Show’ are belligerent dance floor workouts, centred around gained, heavy basslines, dark strings and freaked out squeals, while ‘21st Century’ allows him to show his deeper, techno influenced sound.
Unfortunately, the other compositions don't match Krust’s intensity and fail to mess with the drum’n’bass template. Suitable only for the purists.
