The Stanton Session
Stanton Warriors have risen from nowt to quite a lot in near record time, thanks to a few high-profile remixes.
Currently the name to be dropping if you like 2-step/breakbeat or you are any sort of wideboy, Stanton Warriors have risen from nowt to quite a lot in near record time, thanks to a few high-profile remixes, the odd 12” and that helpful little thing called zeitgeist. They’re also bloody good at what they do.
The Stanton Sessions is the duo’s first mix album, and it’s quite possibly the best you’ll hear all year. There’s the odd obvious track – their own remixes of Basement Jaxx’s ‘Jump And Shout’ and Azzido Da Bass’ ‘Dooms Night’, but apart from that, it’s all fresh as a daisy, mate. DJ Hype, Plump DJs and Layo and Bushwacka sit alongside unknown classics with bloody great basslines, but what makes this stand out is the use of hip-hop acapellas and the restrained use of a guest MC, Moose. And Isolee’s ‘Beau Mot Plage’ has never sounded so good. Highly recommended.
