The Slideshow Effect
DREAM POP DUO’S DEBUT IS A DISAPPOINTING ONE
After wowing critics with their sleep pop drenched debut EP The Years in 2011, Canadian duo Memoryhouse return with their first full length LP The Slideshow Effect. It’s an unashamedly indie offering that’s inspired by “the photographic/cinematic technique of zooming and panning to animate still images”. Mmmmm. Created by classically trained muso Evan Abeele and singer/snapper Denise Nouvion, the record features a fair smattering of pretty ditties (‘Heirloom’, ‘All Our Wonder’) but the material lacks bite. Suffering from an occasionally infuriating nasal vocal tone and mediocre melodies, Memoryhouse’s debut is a forgettable experience; fans of the genre should save their money for the new Beach House album instead.
