The Hunter
Erstwhile Bloc Party man continues to impress with beats-fuelled side-project.
With Bloc Party currently embroiled in a bitter war of words with the press, over their alleged sacking/rehiring of their singer (and generally going off the boil in spectacular fashion) it does the heart good to see the band’s frontman Kele Okereke release a great new solo EP which sees him delve even further down the electronica alleyway.
Proceeding in a similar vein to last year’s debut The Boxer, The Hunter is a seven-song strong mini album of full-on future club classics that hint that maybe he’s better off without his former bandmates after all. ‘What Did I Do?’ which features guest vocals from former ‘Young Chorister of the Year’ Lucy Taylor starts off the release brightly and the cover of Q Lazzarus’ ‘Goodbye Horses’ is another gem, but it’s when Kele slows things down with the beautiful ‘Cable’s Weapon’ that he really shows he’s not just some indie kid having a meaningless fling with dance music and is in it for the long haul.
