The Fatima Mansions' debut album announced as Inis Records' first exclusive reissue
Inis Records, created by members of Fontaines D.C., Adebisi Shank and Faction Records, launched today.
The Fatima Mansions’ 1989 debut album Against Nature has been announced as Inis Records’ first exclusive reissue.
Formed by Cathal Coughlan after the breakup of his band Microdisney, Irish rock group The Fatima Mansions released several acclaimed alternative records, including Against Nature, Viva Dead Ponies (1990) and Valhalla Avenue (1993).
In 1992, they reached the UK Top 10 with a cover of Bryan Adams’ ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It for You’ as part of a charity project. That same year, they opened for U2’s Zoo TV Tour where controversy sparked as Coughlan screamed "Fuck your traitor Pope!" at the Milan show.
“Cathal was a giant,” said Garret ‘Jacknife’ Lee, producer of U2, Snow Patrol and The Killers, in a 2022 interview with Hot Press. "He was a great writer. His perspective was really unique… He was intimidatingly smart and gifted, conveying these images that were so tangible.”
They disbanded in 1995 and Coughlan went on to pursue a solo career.
Inis Records is an independent label and online store dedicated to Irish music. It was launched today by Fontaines D.C. drummer Tom Coll, Adebisi Shank’s Michael Roe and Ken Allen of Faction Records.
It focuses on releasing both new music and landmark Irish reissues, with the online store stocking Irish releases spanning every era and genre. Inis Records also plans to provide distribution and back-end services for selected independent labels, with the founders citing a desire to strengthen Ireland's independent music infrastructure, according to Nialler9.
This edition of Against Nature follows the expanded tracklist Coughlan himself compiled for the album’s 2021 digital reissue, including the single ‘Blues for Ceausescu.”
“We all have a shared love for The Fatima Mansions and are very happy to have Against Nature as our first release,” said Inis Records on Instagram.
The reissue is out October 9 and is now available to preorder here.
