Lo-Fi Folk downer
A graduate of the Nick Drake school of lo-fi folksiness, Richard Walters certainly wears his heart on his sleeve for his debut. For the most part, The Animal is a record inspired by love, in all its many guises. Tracks like ‘Crawl Up To My Room’ and ‘True Love Will Find You In The End’ (a cover of a Daniel Johnston song) are pretty little ditties that tremble and quiver in all the right places, but ultimately we’re left feeling a little sick from all the sweetness.
