Streets: ahead
No Disco push things forward as usual with the debut video from neo-garage real-life documentarists The Streets
You've definitely heard of The Streets by now - UK garage by name, supposedly anyway, but not by nature. The last time the reality of the urban jungle was documented this vibrantly, honestly, unflinchingly, someone like Gangstarr or Gil Scott-Heron was calling the tune. Hot Press gave staggering debut album Original Pirate Material twelve out of twelve stars in our current issue (on newsstands Thursday March 28th), and an interview with solo Street spirit Mike Skinner is soon to follow. But as usual, No Disco (tonight, N2, 11.15) are in there with the televisual goods straight out of the gate – with The Streets’ debut video, ‘Push Things Forward,’ given its Irish premiere broadcast tonight.
Those who prefer to get their their toons from identically dressed Swedish guitar wielders, on the other hand, will be delira to hear that ‘Main Offender,’ from ex-HP cover stars The Hives, will also be at large on tonight’s show. (And don’t forget: to ask The Hives’ Howlin’ Pelle a question - "Why dress in black and white? Did the White Stripes use up all the red?", etc - click here to send Hot Press a Q; we shall convey it with our compliments when we interview them tomorrow morning; and we shall get back to you forthwith with the A.)
Also on tonight’s No Disco: The Warlords of Pez proclaim their love for Padre Pio; Wilt want to go home and an Irish electronica special pushes all the right buttons.
