Stop, Drop And Roll
Green Day side-project acts as placeholder for American Idiot follow-up.
If the slinky retro sounds of the Foxboro Hot Tubs debut album seem familiar, that’s because it’s the not so secret side-project by the members of Green Day. Taking a break from hatching the follow-up to American Idiot, Billie Joe and Co. have decided to blow off some steam by churning out some songs for fun.
Billie Joe’s newly adopted lounge lizard-like croon is almost reminiscent of former Misfits warbler Michale Graves, and he actually sounds pretty sexy on songs like ‘Ruby Room.’ Of course the punk rock snarl is still intact, but ultimately this is a stop-gap while they ponder their next move. Stop, Drop And Roll is a pretty honest rock record with some dazzling moments, but essentially for Green Day anoraks only. Get your arses back into the studio and give us a proper album boys.
Key Track: ‘Alligator’
