Stevie Wonder shares single 'Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart'
The track comes just two weeks after the musician spoke and performed at the Democratic National Convention is support of Kamala Harris
Stevie Wonder has shared his new song 'Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart'. Arriving via Republic Records, it marks Wonder's first solo release since 2020, and sees the music legend issue a call for unity.
One of the most celebrated songwriters and musicians in popular music, Wonder became the youngest artist to achieve a No.1 single with 'Fingertips, Part 2' in 1962. He's since amassed worldwide sales of over 100 million units, twenty five Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as as a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
'Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart' continues Wonder's focus on American social issues showcased on his 2020 'Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate', which addressed racism, police brutality, and the BLM movement, while 'Where Is Our Love' Song' maintained a similar unifying sentiment.
The MoTown icon has long been involved in social causes, having spearheaded the realisation of Martin Luther King Day as a national holiday. As well as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Wonder is also a member of the NAACP Hall of Fame, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and is a designated U.N Messenger of Peace with special focus on persons with disabilities.
In August, he took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, offering a speech and performance in support of U.S. presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
"As we stand between history’s pain and tomorrow's promises, we must choose courage over complacency,” he said. “We must keep on keepin’ on until we truly are a united people of these United States. And then we will reach our high ground.”
