Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), has announced details for her highly-anticipated new album, Daddy’s Home. The sixth album from the enigmatic artist, who is widely regarded as one of the most consistently innovative and intriguing presences in modern music, is the latest facet of St. Vincent's ever-evolving nature.
In the winter of 2019, St. Vincent’s father was released from prison, and she began writing the songs that would eventually become Daddy’s Home. The album, for St. Vincent, is about closing the loop on a journey that began with his incarceration in 2010 and ultimately led her back to the vinyl her dad had introduced her to during her childhood.
Daddy's Home sees St. Vincent reunite with famed producer Jack Antonoff, and the record was recorded by Laura Sisk, mixed by Cian Riordan, and mastered by Chris Gehringer.
Clark made her debut as St. Vincent in 2007, and her fourth, self-titled album won the 2014 Grammy for Best Alternative Album. She was the second female artist ever to win in that category.
In addition to these solo works, St. Vincent's collaborations have included an album with David Byrne (2012’s Love This Giant), a performance as singer and lead guitarist of Nirvana at the band’s 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and a 2019 Grammy Awards duet with Dua Lipa.
The first full broadcast from Daddy's Home comes in the form of 'Pay Your Way In Pain,' a slinky, sweaty funk offering. The video for the track was directed by Bill Benz, who also serves as director of the forthcoming The Nowhere Inn, co-written by and starring St. Vincent.
