Springsteen Releases Legendary Roxy '78 Show
Long Sought After FM Broadcast Is The Latest Addition To The Boss' Live Archive
Corner Hot Press' Stuart Clark in any of the many rough hostelries he can regularly be found in about the town, buy him one of those expensive beers he claims to like, and he'll expound at length his theory about the redevelopment of Vicar Street and the, he reckons, related prospect of Bruce Springsteen bringing his Broadway show to Europe.
All, alas, unfounded bollocks, as far as we know, but Springsteen nuts can now console themselves with this glorious reminder of the days, and nights, when the Boss still played the odd smaller venue.
Captured at The Roxy in Los Angeles, capacity only 500!, this 1978 show was an FM broadcast to promote Darkness On The Edge Of Town and the attendant nationwide tour. The whole thing is mind blowing but if you're after highlights try the live debut of 'Point Blank' or the way 'Growin' Up' segues into 'It's Hard To Be A Saint In The City'. You might be familiar with the version of 'Backstreets' from the Live 1975-85 box, but here the previously cut 'Sad Eyes' middle section is restored, and the piano version of 'Independence Day' will leave grown men bawling.
