Sometime Soon
Decent, if not quite spectacular, Stones pastiche
Not to be confused with the British/Norwegian hard rock group made up of former members of Whitesnake, Vagabond and the late, great Cozy Powell, alt.country types The Snakes’ second album Sometime Soon… is a pleasant enough forty minutes or so of laid back, Exile On Main Street-esque tuneage. While the album is a pretty solid affair, it’s not exactly essential listening either as the band don’t exactly wear their influences on their sleeve, but tattoo them on their faces instead. ‘Promised Land’ sounds just like the Travelling Wilburys when Tom Petty was allowed to take the lead, the Delta boogie of ‘Refrigerator Blues’ is as generic as they come and they rarely stray from the tried and tested. Still, the honesty of tracks like ‘What Have I Done To You?’ and ‘Tin Foil Town’ is quite charming. A mixed breed.
Key Track: ‘What Have I Done To You?’
