So I Ate Myself, Bite By Bite
That much-awaited Black Moth Super Rainbow sideproject is here!
Dreamend is the brainchild of Black Moth Super Rainbow oddball Ryan Graveface. Thus, So I Ate Myself, Bite By Bite sees the tunesmith once again channel his inner shoe-gazer for a collection of admittedly pretty tracks. There is a problem though: Ryan has a run-of-the-mill indie voice. True it may be reminiscent of the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne or Tom DeLaughter from the Polyphonic Spree – but Graveface’s melodies aren’t nearly as strong as either of those two acts regularly deliver, and so you end up forgetting all about tracks like ‘Where You Belong’ and ‘Magnesium Light’ after you’ve heard them. On the other hand, the gorgeous ‘My Old Brittle Bones’ shows that old Graveface can come up with the goods. Just not frequently enough on this outing...
