Sleep Mountain
Arcade fire wannabes deliver decent homage to their heroes
OK – let’s get rid of the elephant in the room quick sharpish. You could be forgiven for thinking that the Kissaway Trail’s latest record is just a bunch of Arcade Fire covers. In fact, Sleep Mountain is so indebted to Win Butler’s mob (they even have a song called ‘Don’t Wake Up’), it’s hard to separate both bands when you listen to it. That’s not to say it’s a bad record . What it lacks in originality it more than makes up for in passion, romance and beautiful songwriting. ‘Friendly Fire,’ ‘Painter’ and ‘SDP’ are all gorgeous slices of awkward indie – just don’t expect them to change your life.
