Shut Up And Make
It drags occasionally due to Deasy's (less frequent this time around) insistence on over-working certain aspects, but overall this album is an enjoyably bizarre ride to the far side.
Eight ‘movements’, 70-odd minutes and a plethora of ideas make up Deasy’s second long-player. We weren’t sold on his debut, but ‘Shut Up And Make’ is an altogether more convincing affair. Akin to Prefuse 73 with a longer attention span, opener ‘BombaySystems’ is an 11-minute romp underpinned by various breaks, but Cleary’s control of FX, tones and samples keeps it interesting. This sets the standard for the rest of the LP – the chopped funk of ‘New Generation’ and the rambling ‘A Calendar’ stand out. It drags occasionally due to his (less frequent this time around) insistence on over-working certain aspects, but overall this is an enjoyably bizarre ride to the far side.
