She's spinnin' around, move out of her way
Actor, musician, professional widow and major-label-baiter Courtney Love spins a few at Alan McGee's Death Disco, soon heading to a Dublin near you. Did we mention the new Nirvana track?
Courtney Love took a turn behind the decks when Alan McGee's new club night, Death Disco, opened for business at Metro in London's Totteham Court Road.
On hand to witness this momentous occasion – and spin a few killer tunes himself – was former U2 vibemaster B.P. Fallon.
"Courtney's not a bad DJ," says the Beep. "She was a bit annoyed with me 'cause I played The Sonics' 'Strictly' before she had a chance to do, but then she stole the show by giving an unreleased Nirvana track, 'You Know You're Right', its world premiere. It's an In Utero-era song, very rocky and partly to do with suicide.
"Her night was well and truly made when she met an old pal of mine, Anita Pallenberg. Anita and Marianne Faithfull are big heroes of Courtney's on account of what they brought to the Rolling Stones' table."
Running every Thursday night – "until Alan gets bored" – Death Disco has a defiantly punk vibe to it.
"It's for people who don't give a fuck about fashion, but love their rock 'n' roll," B.P. reflects.
Those sentiments are echoed by Alan McGee who tells hotpress.com: "I'm having so much fun doing Death Disco, it's not true! It's the only club in the world where you can play Public Image, DAF, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Led Zeppelin, Iggy and Motley Crue side by side and it makes sense."
The even better news is that Death Disco's coming to Dublin.
"We're looking for a nice sweaty basement where we can rock everybody's socks off."
