Trio are the first rap act to receive the honour
After a career full of firsts, Run DMC will add another to their list when they become the first rap act in history to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys.
The group - comprising Joseph Simmons, aka Rev Run, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Jason Mizell aka Jam Master Jay - were the first hip-hop group to reach both Gold and multi-platinum status in the US, and now have another pioneering achievement to their name.
Rev Run took to Twitter to express his delight, which will see them immortalised along with jazz legend Herbie Hancock, R&B heroes Earth, Wind & Fire, rockers Jefferson Airplane, Cuban singer Celia Cruz, country musician Linda Ronstadt, and vocalist Ruth Browne.
