Róisín Murphy is back with new song 'CooCool'
Róisín Murphy's first single on Ninja June was produced by DJ Koze.
Róisín Murphy has returned with a new song, 'CooCool', produced by DJ Koze.
The outing marks her first single on Ninja Tune, featuring a portrait of Murphy created artist Beth Frey as artwork.
The song, Murphy said in a press release, is “ostensibly a fragile little flower yet it has great hidden strength at the roots.” She adds, “There’s classic virtuosity and a lightness of touch, while DJ Koze’s hyper-modern production makes it bounce and glide. It’s a stupidly romantic little love poem. ‘This thing is way beyond any kind of parody.’ Everything in this song is true and playful. Can we fall in love and retain our sense of humour? ‘Embrace your inner child!’ Timeless, ageless, unavoidable love.”
Murphy’s last album was 2020’s Róisín Machine, which got a remix album in 2021 called Crooked Machine. Róisín Machine scored a nomination for Album of the Year at the Choice Music Awards.
"Covering most of the disco rhythms, from the funky ‘Incapable’ to the '70s-inspired stomper ‘Murphy’s Law’, Róisín Machine is a spellbinding effort, boasting some of Murphy's best work yet," Hot Press' Tanis Smither wrote in her verdict.
Following her sold-out 3Olympia Theatre gig in 2022, Róisín Murphy will make her triumphant return to Dublin with an open-air show as part of Trinity Summer Series, on July 2, 2023.
Disco-pop queen Róisín originally rose to prominence in the '90s, as one-half of Moloko, who released smash hit songs including 'Sing It back' and 'The Time Is Now'. She then moved on to an remarkable solo career.
