Roisin Murphy and Aphex Twin earn Mercury nods
Two of the first three nominees announced hail from Irish shores
You don't need to tell us that it's been a fine year for Irish music, and it seems like the judges of the Mercury Prize are in full agreement.
Limerick born Richard D James was the first name announced on the list, followed quickly by Roisin Murphy. The former's Syro was something of a surprise release when it arrived; the latter's Hairless Toys a similar shock, given it had been eight years since her last album.
Wolf Alice is the only other nominee announced so far; we'll have further updates - and, indeed, the full list - when it arrives.
