Irish contemporary composer Roger Doyle will unveil his latest composition The Room In The Tower during this year’s Absolut Fringe festival
Doyle will take up residence in the Kevin Barry Room at the National Concert Hall from September 13 – 18. Entry tickets will include access to an exclusive music download of the work.
A soundtrack for an imaginary film, The Room In The Tower reveals a horror story based on a recurring nightmare. In the dimly lit room of a haunted house in the early 20th century, a story unfolds through recorded dialogue, electronic sounds and the ethereal live vocals of Vyvienne Long and Doyle on piano. The work is scripted by Carlo Gebler.
Doyle has worked extensively in theatre, film and dance, in particular with the music-theatre company Operating Theatre, which he co-founded with actress Olwen Fouéré. Babel had its first public showing in the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1992 as a dance piece. He was also commissioned by RTÉ for a new work, Adolf Gebler, clarinettist, for symphony orchestra and pre-recorded acted scenes, which was the first in the series.
