Retrograde
With his second album due to hit shelves on April 8, soultronica innovator James Blake continues to divide opinion; some audiences (guilty!) have him pegged as a modern day Nina Simone, others feel that, to quote a UK journalist, “He needs to stop warbling, take a deep breath and get on with it”. Still, I find it hard to believe that Blake naysayers won’t fall head over heels for melodious synth ballad ‘Retrograde’, which makes brilliant use of the crooner’s devastating falsetto.
