Rescate 137
Irrespective of the prevailing musical climate, you can always rely on Cristian Vogel to release music that's in a completely different dimension to everything else.
Irrespective of the prevailing musical climate, you can always rely on Cristian Vogel to release music that's in a completely different dimension to everything else. Too daring for most dance floors, his unusual, almost unique interpretation of sounds, rhythms and grooves nonetheless ensures his work is twisted yet curiously funky, and his seventh album, Rescate 137 is no exception. Admittedly, it's not the kind of music you'll be doing the ironing to, but the loose, crunchy beats of 'Whipaspank' are an endearing oddity, recent single 'Esquina Del Sol' is a subterranean minimal groove with a wired brass accompaniment, detuned organ stabs and Vogel's trademark freeform vibe, while it sounds like a gargoyle with a particularly bad bout of indigestion is free styling over the dope beats of 'Wind From Nowhere'. Meanwhile, Vogel revisits his Latin American heritage with the charming, abstract 'La Isla Piscola' and out dubs Maurizio on the late nite groove of 'Me And My Shadow'. It's a weird but curiously accessible trip from one of dance music's few remaining mavericks.
