Rattle and hum
Gentle cult Corkonians Boa Morte soon to release their debut LP on Teenage Fanclub-founded label Shoeshine
The wonderful – but extremely quiet – Boa Morte open their account with the release of Soon It Will Come Time To Face The World Outside.
Equal parts Nick Drake and Tindersticks, the full track-listing is: 'Milking Machine', 'Tonight She Said', 'Organ Link', 'Magnet Line', 'Burn', 'Unfortunate Leader', 'Snowbound Again', 'Piano Giut Link', 'Tired Eyes', 'December', 'North Star' and 'Milking Machine'.
Having done all the recording themselves, the Cork trio sent a copy to Teenage Fanclub drummer Francis McDonald who promptly co-opted it onto his Shoeshine label.
"Francis played the album in a studio during a break whilst he was recording with Teenage Fanclub," enthuses bassist Cormac Gahan. "Both he and Norman Blake were impressed with the quality of the material – we got a call from Francis the next day. Good news because we're all fans of Teenage Club."
Having been around in one form or other for a few years, they nonetheless have kept relatively quiet, becoming - while seldom playing live - one of the better-kept secrets in Irish music. But soon it will come time to, well, you know: so keep an eye peeled for an interview with the quiet Corkonians in an upcoming issue of Hot Press.
