Rare Christie Hennessy record to be re-released
The Green Album is out on May 12
Christie Hennessy has his ultra-rare 1972 debut, The Green Album, posthumously re-released next week.
With Christie only pressing up 500 vinyl copies, it became something of a Holy Grail for folk collectors who’ve been known to pay in excess of €600 to have it in their collections.
One of them wound its way to Christy Moore who took a shine to one of its standouts, ‘Don’t Get Yourself A Shovel’, which after a slight title-tweak earned him his first number one.
“I think it’s one of the greatest albums I’ve ever encountered in my life,” Moore enthuses. “It was totally unique. The songs on it were just heartwarming.”
As reported in the last issue of Hot Press, Hennessy’s widow, Gill Ross, has won substantial damages following his death from mesothelioma, caused by his exposure to asbestos during his early career working as a painter and decorator in London.
