Radiohead Criticise Toronto During Live Show for Stage Collapse in 2012
Last night, Radiohead played Toronto for the first time since the death of the band’s drum technician, Scott Johnson, during a stage collapse in the Canadian city in 2012.
Lead singer Thom Yorke addressed the tragedy during the show, stating: “The people who should be held accountable are still not being held accountable in your city. The silence is fucking deafening.”
The incident is available to watch via Consequence of Sound, along with a moment of silence for Johnson and the intro to ‘Karma Police.’
In 2017, an Ontario judge halted the charges brought against promoters Live Nation, Toronto scaffolding company Optex Staging and Services, and engineer Domenic Cugliari under the province’s Occupational Health and Safety Act. This was due to long delays in bringing the case to trial, according to a CBC News report of the time.
This week, Radiohead drummer Philip Selway appeared on BBC Newsnight to discuss the incident stating: "There have been no real answers... Without the answers we can't ensure that an accident like this can't happen again."
This clip can be watched below.
