PREMIERE: Nerves share claustrophobic new video for 'Leigue'
Get a first look at the new video from the acclaimed Irish band below.
Following the release of their latest single, 'Leigue', earlier this month, avant-punk trio Nerves are back with a new video for the lauded track – premiering below.
Embracing a dark, claustrophobic aesthetic and energy, the visuals reflect the difficult personal themes behind the intense single.
In late 2019, a close friend and former band member from Nerves' hometown of Ballina passed away. As the band's lead vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Kyle Thornton attempted to process the loss and confusion, he begin to distract himself for several months with drinking, over-working and isolating himself from friends and family. He didn’t write anything for five months after his friend's passing, until finally emerging with 'Leigue' – a song that explores the dangers of trying to ignore grief with unhealthy coping mechanisms.
“We feel as though 'Leigue' was a bit of a turning point for us as a band, towards something more mature and cathartic," Kyle explains. "It’s paved the way for how our sound and attitude has changed over the course of the last year. It’s still intense and still fun to play but it means more to us now than I think it ever has."
Record over lockdown at Sonic Studios with Girl Band’s Daniel Fox, 'Leigue' firmly cements Nerves' status as one of the most captivating emerging acts in the country – on the verge of making major waves on these shores and beyond.
