Premiere: Driven Snow share lush music video for new single ‘Nothing As Hard As Love’

The collaborative project of partners Kieran McGuinness and Emily Aylmer, Driven Snow releases their fifth single to date today, November 3. ‘Nothing As Hard As Love’ is a fervent ode to love and loss, building on the duo’s homespun narratives inspired by their interconnected life experiences.

The track is released with a stunning music video filmed in a lush, outdoor setting, which adds vibrant colour to the introspective track. Be one of the first to watch the video, premiering below!

Fusing their musical talents, ‘Nothing As Hard As Love’ features achingly beautiful vocals from the pair, driven by gentle percussion, and delicately picked guitar sweeping along with whispering keys. Their vocals melt together like differently coloured wax, producing a gentle tune with a massive heart, blazing with the pair’s shared passion for touching lyricism.

Of the release, McGuinness explains, “This song is central to everything we’ve written so far. It’s about how everything bad that happens reminds you to go on; that, sometimes, to get to the good stuff you have to take risks that don’t work out.”

Aylmer, who sang with legendary Irish icon Sinéad O'Connor, adds to the statement, sharing, “We were initially hesitant about releasing something so heartfelt, but when Sinéad O'Connor passed, we were both hugely affected by it and reminded of her musical and personal bravery. So we decided to follow her lead and put out one of our most naked songs. Her life and power was inspiring and hopefully the song has a little of her inspiration in it.”

Having acted as one another’s musical sounding boards – Aylmer was a vocalist with Republic of Loose and Stars On Fire, while McGuinness served as a lynchpin of Delorentos – the dynamic duo began working on their collaborative musical venture over a number of years.

They eventually took the project to Tommy McLaughlan (Villagers, S.O.A.K, Pillow Queens) in Attica Studios, Donegal, who assisted the two in forming their sound. The result was Driven Snow.

Debuting in early 2022 with ‘Trying,’ their music since has offered a tantalising hint of the yearning curiosity in their songwriting, with a mix of classic harmonies housed in uncluttered acoustic and electronic sounds. Their lyrics explore the realities of life as an artist in Ireland, beautifully articulated and wrapped in tender sonics.

The duo have spent the last year perfecting their live performance, and will shortly announce an Irish tour for 2024.

No matter what, Driven Snow continue to strive toward one goal: to make music they would want to listen to.
